JOHN ALLERTON

John Allerton was a seaman on the Mayflower, and upon arrival in Plymouth was "reputed as one of the company but was to go back (being a seaman) for the help of others left behind," but he "died here before the ship returned," in the general sickness (i.e., before 5 April 1621) [Bradford 443, 447]. John Allerton signed the Mayflower Compact on 11 November 1620.

COMMENTS: "Jan Alaerton" had a child buried at the Pieterskerk at Leiden on 21 May 1616 [NS] [NEA 3:2:48]. He was probably the Mayflower passenger and probably brother of ISAAC ALLERTON.
