Plymouth 400 aims to highlight the cultural contributions and traditions inspired from the Wampanoag and English peoples on the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage and the founding of Plymouth Colony. Celebrations of this anniversary are expected to involve millions of participants both nationally and internationally as global leaders, artists, entertainers, veterans, descendants, and students join together in events and moments to commemorate this historic event.
Plymouth 400 will plan signature events and programs to honor the Mayflower anniversary. These events will include exhibitions, live events, festivals, arts and entertainment collaborations, and educational programming and resources. They will take place between 2014 and 2020. LEARN MORE
In 2020, Mayflower 400 will mark the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage by commemorating the stories and heritage of the passengers and crew who undertook this journey. The Mayflower 400 program consists of a world-class series of events, public art, and wider content which will bring communities together, drive economic growth, inspire creativity, and promote education. Mayflower 400 champions the common values, faith, and personal liberties articulated between the relationships of the United Kingdom of Britain, the United States of America, and the Netherlands. Founded in 1897, the General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD), also known as the Mayflower Society, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to telling the story of the Pilgrims who travelled to America on the Mayflower in 1620. GSMD operates a research library at their Plymouth headquarters and publishes the GSMD "Silver Books," a series detailing five generations of Mayflower passengers and descendants. GSMD’s aim is to preserve and protect the historic property and artifacts of the original Pilgrims and their descendants, and to enhance public awareness and support through educational publications, programs, and historic tours. New England Beginnings is a partnership that aims to encourage and promote activities commemorating the heritage and culture that shaped New England in the early 1600’s. New England Beginnings tells the story of New England in the 1600’s to a wide audience, and makes historical resources in the field easily accessible for future scholars and enthusiasts. LEARN MORE
